Japan Patent Office announced the release of the JPO Status Report 2025, a compilation of statistical information and policy outcomes from 2024.
According to JPO, the total number of patent applications in 2024 is 306,855, and slightly increased (2.24% up) compared to the total number of patent applications in 2023 (300,133).
On the one hand, the number of patent applications by country/region of applicant in 2024 (Top 10 Countries/Regions) is as follows:
Except Japan, US predominates in the number of patent applications, and China follows it.
Also, according to JPO, the total number of trademark applications in 2024 is 158,792, and slightly decreased (3.21% down) compared to the total number of trademark applications in 2023 (164,061).
On the other hand, the following is the number of trademark applications by country/region of applicant in 2024 (Top 10 Countries/Regions). Except Japan, China shows its presence over US.
